Boulder Crest Institute is the world leader in advancing the science of Posttraumatic Growth (PTG).
The science of Posttraumatic Growth was initially described in 1995 after a decade of research and clinical work focused on trauma survivors. UNC-Charlotte professors and psychologists Richard Tedeschi and Lawrence Calhoun discovered that many trauma survivors grew in positive ways in the aftermath of their trauma.
Today, Dr. Tedeschi chairs the Boulder Crest Institute and is dedicated to supporting combat veterans, first responders, and their families. Dr. Tedeschi is supported in this work by the Vice Chair of the Boulder Crest Institute, Dr. Bret Moore, a twice-deployed former Army psychologist.

DVNF’s grants are intended for organizations who are making an impact on veterans in their communities. Whether they are doing this through programs that affect mental and physical wellness, hosting a stand down for homeless and low-income veterans, or having a free store for veterans to get items they need, DVNF grants are here to enhance those efforts. We currently have two different types of grants: Through our Health and Comfort program DVNF distributes our signature Comfort Kits to struggling veterans throughout the country. These kits provide vital necessities such as health and hygiene items, clothing, and more to veterans of all walks of life. The contents of our Comfort Kits vary based on our inventory, however, we always strive to include quality and full-sized items such as shampoo, conditioner, soap, a toothbrush, toothpaste, razors, deodorant, a t-shirt, a pair of socks, sunscreen, Band-Aids, etc… The Capacity Building Grants provide support to our nation’s veterans. There’s no one-size-fits-all protocol for how a veteran overcomes the mental impacts of war, and outside of the initial recovery from physical wounds, it’s often up to the veteran to navigate his or her own way back to a normal life. These grants are awarded to organizations around the country who are addressing the mental and physical recovery of veterans. Service dogs, equine therapy, yoga, art therapy, and recreational therapy are just a few of the innovative programs that DVNF supports. DVNF has two open sessions a year in which they process grants. Organizations may submit their application during these open grant sessions.

We believe those touched by military service can succeed at home by restoring their sense of self, family, and hope. Nationally, Hope For The Warriors provides comprehensive support programs for service members, veterans, and military families that are focused on transition, health and wellness, peer engagement, and connections to community resources. Our Warrior’s Wish® program is about transforming lives. And we do it one person, one family at a time by fulfilling life-changing wishes of severely-injured service members — wishes that push them beyond surviving and allows them to thrive. Each Warrior’s Wish is as unique as the person seeking something more. It may be a chance to reconnect with family after a long journey through recovery. A wish may come in the form of adaptive equipment to resume a hobby that carried so much meaning before injury. It could be tools or a workspace to launch a new career. All wishes have a singular goal — to create better quality of life for those who sacrificed for our country. HOPE FOR THE WARRIORS HAS GRANTED NEARLY 200 WISHES, TOTALING MORE THAN $1 MILLION IN TRANSFORMATIVE EXPERIENCES FOR SEVERELY-INJURED VETERANS.

Move America Forward (MAF) is a nonprofit military charity based in Sacramento, California and is dedicated to supporting the brave men and women of our Armed Forces. Our principal mission today is to provide care packages and letters from grateful Americans to the troops deployed in combat areas around the world. While there are many admirable groups supporting our veterans, we are one of the few organizations left supporting active duty troops deployed to the front lines around the world where our troops are in harm’s way. MAF began by providing general troop support and educating the American public on the good works of our military men and women in combat areas in the Middle East. We employed television, radio, social media and the internet to reach out to Americans, so they would support and defend our troops when they were unfairly criticized or attacked. We further engaged people in supporting troops by conducting national bus tours with public rallies throughout the country. We led delegations to Iraq and Guantanamo Bay, taking Gold Star Parents to Iraq, working with military servicemen and women, pro troop companies, service organizations, and many other supporters from across the nation to benefit our troops. We early on recognized that our troops in harm’s way needed to hear directly from American citizens affirming their support and providing some comforts from home. We differ from other pro-military organizations by making sure that our care packages are individually addressed to military personnel in combat areas. Each package includes a note from the package sponsors that indicates their support and gratitude for the sacrifices being made to protect our freedom. Our mission is to provide year-round military care packages that are full of the most requested items and the taste of home to our heroes. Move America Forward has sent over 700 tons of care packages to deployed troops.

The Organization Our Mission The USO strengthens America’s military service members by keeping them connected to family, home and country, throughout their service to the nation. Since 1941, the USO has been the nation’s leading organization to serve the men and women in the U.S. military, and their families, throughout their time in uniform. From the moment they join, through their assignments and deployments, and as they transition back to their communities, the USO is always by their side. Today’s USO continuously adapts to the needs of our men and women in uniform and their families, so they can focus on their very important mission. We operate USO centers at or near military installations across the United States and throughout the world, including in combat zones, and even un-staffed USO service sites in places too dangerous for anyone but combat troops to occupy. USO airport centers throughout the country offer around-the clock hospitality for traveling service members and their families. Our trademark USO tours bring America and its celebrities to service members who are assigned far from home, to entertain them and convey the support of the nation. And our many specialized programs offer a continuum of support to service members throughout their journey of service, from the first time they don the uniform until the last time they take it off. The USO is not part of the federal government. A congressionally chartered, private organization, the USO relies on the generosity of individuals, organizations and corporations to support its activities, and is powered by a family of volunteers to accomplish our mission of connection.

Every warrior has a next mission. We know that the transition to civilian life is a journey. And for every warrior, family member, and caregiver, that journey looks different. Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) began in 2003 as a small, grassroots effort providing simple care and comfort items to the hospital bedsides of the first wounded service members returning home from the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. As their post-service needs evolved, so have our programs and services. Today, through our direct programs in mental health, career counseling, and long-term rehabilitative care, along with our advocacy efforts, we improve the lives of millions of warriors and their families.
