The National Association of State Directors of Veterans Affairs (NASDVA) is an organization with a history dating back to 1946. In the aftermath of World War II, many veterans earned State and Federal benefits which required coordinated efforts to ensure veterans received these entitlements. Thus, states developed a Department or Agency specifically to manage veterans’ affairs and carry out the responsibility for veteran services and programming. The NASDVA members represent all fifty states, the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. Nationally, we are the second largest provider of services to veterans and our roles continue to expand. State Directors as leaders of governmental agencies are tasked by their respective Governors, State Boards and/or Commissions with a the responsibility to address the needs of veterans regardless of age, gender, era of service, military branch or circumstance of service.

The Attack at Pearl Harbor With no warning the attacking planes came into sight over pearl harbor. At 7:55 AM, December 7, 1941 the first target was hit and by 9:45 AM it was all over. Behind them the Japanese left devastation as their aircraft carriers headed home to Japan. Over 2400 people died, hundreds of planes were destroyed, and a fleet containing eight battleships was ruined. With a single act, Japan woke America to the horrible realities of war. The debate that had divided Americans since the German defeat of France was decided, America would go to war. President Roosevelt received word of the attack on a Sunday afternoon and stated he would ask congress to declare war on Japan. On Monday the declaration of war was signed and one day later, Germany, Italy, and Japan declared war on the US. The National Pearl Harbor Survivors Association is officially recognized by the United States Congress Federal Carter Grant – Public Law – 99-119 dated October 7, 1985. Our organization is a symbol of America’s commitment to preparedness against unprovoked acts of aggression. We are dedicated to insuring that this and future generations remain cognizant of the events of December 7, 1941 and that all Americans never are allowed to forget that ‘ETERNAL VIGILANCE IS THE PRICE OF PEACE’. – Our Motto is – ‘REMEMBER PEARL HARBOR – KEEP AMERICA ALERT’

During World War II, a select group of young women pilots became pioneers, heroes, and role models…They were the Women Airforce Service Pilots, WASP, the first women in history trained to fly American military aircraft. In memory of those we have lost and in honor of those we still cherish… WELCOME Our missionis to let the voices and the stories of the WASP inspire and encourage our visitors to fly higher than they’ve ever flown. And one thing you should know right up front, WASP ALWAYS TELL THE TRUTH. They don’t need to make anything up! WASP LIVED their history, one checkride, one heartbreak and one triumph at a time.
